Don't Be Anxious

Philippians 4:4-7: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

This passage commands us not to be anxious, but rather to rejoice, and present our needs and desires to God with an attitude of thanksgiving. If we will do this, He promises us peace.

Make two lists (3-5 items each):
1) Needs and desires you have right now (especially things that are making you anxious)
2) Circumstances, people and things you are grateful for.

Spend time praying, giving the most amount of time expressing your gratefulness to God and reflecting on the good gifts he has given to you and thanking him for them.

Then simply present your list of needs to him, asking him to take control in each situation. Release to him each thing that is causing you anxiety. You may want to use words like:

“Father, I have been anxious about ___________, but now I’m handing it over to you. You know what is best for me and so I’m going to trust you with this. Help me to stop worrying and give me the peace you promised. Amen”
