Express Gratitude

Luke 17:12-19: As [Jesus] was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has saved you.”

Nine lepers did not show gratitude, but one did. And that one received more than the others. He received not only physical healing, but also forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

Spend some time reflecting on the story of your life, childhood … teen and adult years. Call to mind pivotal events and experiences, and become aware of how God was present in each of these. What are the good things God has done in your life … think about times when he healed you in some way, provided for you, rescued you from a difficult situation, comforted you, or filled you with joy and inspiration.

Write down a prayer of gratitude to him which acknowledges his goodness throughout your life. You could even write a poem, or draw a picture if you are artistically inclined.

Allow God to encounter you in your place of gratitude and experience the presence of His Spirit.
