El Roi

The God Who Sees

El Roi was first revealed in the Bible by Hagar. She was Sarah’s handmaiden, who became pregnant with Abraham’s child so that, in their minds, they could fulfil the promise of God. Soon after the child was conceived, things became very difficult between Sarah and Hagar. So much so that Hagar fled out into the wilderness. Friendless, homeless, pregnant, not knowing what would become of her, she lay down by a fountain in the wilderness. There, an angel appeared to her to give her comfort and to speak of God’s grace and mercy. At that time she called Him El Roi. Genesis 16:13 says: “She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.” Did you know that God sees you right now? God knows your very thoughts. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me."

A - Adoration:

Meditate on and adore God for the fact that “His eye is on the sparrow” and on everything in all creation. Conclude this time of worship by singing I Will Run to You.

C - Confession:

Spend time asking for forgiveness for doubting God’s presence and awareness of your situation during a difficult season.

T - Thanks:

Write out a list of things that God watches over in your life and give Him thanks!

S - Supplication:

Psalm 121 says “I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.” Spend time praying about those areas in the lives of fellow Christians, work colleagues, family or friends where they desperately need the help of the One who watches over them. Pray about those areas in your life where you need the help of the Lord who watches over you. Intercede about any areas in our country or the world where God’s help and intervention is desperately needed.
