Elohim

The Creator

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” It literally says, “In the beginning Elohim, Elohim created the heaven and the earth.” This is a plural Hebrew word from two root words: El, which means strength and unlimited power. And the last part is allah, which means to keep a promise. I believe that right here on the threshold of the Bible we see an indication of the nature of God, as shown in the Holy Trinity – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All three were present in creation (see John 1:3). Aren’t you glad we find the Saviour in chapter 1, verse 1? Aren’t you glad we find the Holy Spirit in chapter 1, verse 1? Aren’t you glad we find the Father in chapter 1, verse 1 of the Word of God?

A - Adoration:

Set aside some time to walk outside in creation and praise God for all the beautiful things you see in His creation. Psalm 19:1-2 says “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.” Look at the heavens and praise God for what they declare about our Creator.

C - Confession:

Ask forgiveness for those times you have not cared for and preserved God’s creation through selfish or thoughtless behaviour.

T - Thanks:

During your walk in creation thank God for various elements of creation that sustain your life.

S - Supplication:

Pray that God would lead you, your family, our church, our country and our world to ways we can protect and preserve the beautiful world that He gave us dominion over. Pray that our Creator God would sustain our world by sending the rain our country so desperately needs. Pray that we would treat our fellow human beings as precious people created in the image of God. Perhaps here you want to ask God to give you the grace to love the person who you are struggling with at this time. To supplement your prayer time, you may want to also do the YouVersion devotion "Six Days of the Names of God".

To remind yourself of why we're studying the names of God and for a list of prayer meetings which you may consider joining, please read our Introductory Post.
