El Shaddai

God Almighty

The name El Shaddai appears seven times in the Word of God. In the Book of Genesis we see the constant, changeless, unbreakable promise that God made to Abraham. Genesis 17:1-2 says, “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” This God who keeps His promise to Abraham is the same God that keeps His promises to you and me through Jesus Christ.

Related Scripture:

Exodus 6:2-3; Psalm 91:1

A - Adoration:

Adore our great God with the song, How Great is our God
Praise God for the fact that He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omnipresent (all-pervasive, all-present) and omniscient (all-knowing).

C - Confession:

Ask the all-knowing God to “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.. Confess any areas that the Lord reveals to you as “offensive”.

T - Thanks:

Thank God for the fact that even though He is Almighty He invites you, like Abraham, into an intimate relationship with Himself.

S - Supplication:

Ask God to empower you, your loved ones and our church to walk faithfully and blamelessly with Him. Trust Almighty God with what, for you, is an impossible situation in your life (e.g. an addiction, financial struggle, broken relationship, sickness, problem in our country or the world, etc.). To do this, take some time as you physically hold your palms up and think of that situation and then imagine yourself placing the situation in the hands of our Almighty God. To supplement your prayer time, you may want to also do the YouVersion devotion "Six Days of the Names of God".
